No man is without some quality, by the due application of which he might deserve well of the world; and whoever he be that has but little in his power should be in haste to do that little, lest he be confounded with him that can do nothing, --Dr. Johnson.

We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.--Longfellow.

Every person is responsible for all the good within the scope of his abilities, and for no more.--Gail Hamilton.

The possession of great powers no doubt carries with it a contempt for mere external show. --James A. Garfield.

The art of using moderate abilities to advantage wins praise, and often acquires more reputation than actual brilliancy. --La Rochefoucauld.

   Ability is a poor man’s wealth.--Mattew Wren.

The measure of capacity is the measure of sphere to either man or woman. --Elizabeth Oakes Smith.

Natural ability can almost compensate for the want of every kind of cultivation; but no cultivation of the mind can make up for the want of natural ability. --Schopenhauer.

May we be “ready” when Jesus returns

Do Jesus' words come alive in our minds daily with real, committed belief?

Actions show what people really believe!

All around us are those whose actions show they do not give a moment’s thought to there being a God, who had a Son, who invites them to follow him. We ourselves prove by our words and actions in doing “the will of God” whether we really believe – and, as a result, have a wondrous relationship as a brother or sister of Jesus – this being a day after day experience.

As a result, may we be “ready” when Jesus returns.

Sow and harvests in the garden of your heart

"The heart is our garden,
and along with each action there is an intention that is planted like a seed.
We can use a sharp knife to cut someone,
and if our intention is to do harm, we will be a murderer.
We can perform an almost identical action,
but if we are a surgeon, the intention is to heal and save a life.
The action is the same, yet depending on its purpose or intention,
it can be either a terrible act or a compassionate act."
- Jack Kornfield

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
* When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it,
the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.
This is the seed sown along the path.

* The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time.
When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

* The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns
is the man who hears the word,
but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it,
making it unfruitful.

* But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil
is the man who hears the word and understands it.
He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Matthew 13:18-23

Dear God, let me produce a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

Control your destiny or somebody else will

"Control your destiny or somebody else will."
- Jack Welch

There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity.
- Douglas MacArthur

If you miss a chance it is if someone who lets a bird
fly away;
you will never get that change again.
- John of the Cross

"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today,
that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse.
So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,
by loving the Lord Jehovah, your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him."
Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Lord, give me the skill to undertake the correct actions,
and let me always take the right decisions,
always taking into account your wishes and regulations.

No person has greater love than this one who surrendered his soul in behalf of his friends

John 15:13 (33 kb)
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Thoughts
Words communicate and explain. We can tell people that we love them. We can explain how precious they are to us. Actions validate and confirm. When we sacrifice our preferences for another, we show our respect and affection. When we sacrifice ourselves, our wishes, and our preferences for a friend, we give the greatest of all gifts and prove our love beyond any doubt.
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving me enough to send Jesus as a ransom for my sins. I am
thankful that Jesus gave himself as a loving sacrifice that not only saves me, but shows me the full extent of your love. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.
