Dezer dagen zijn wij in debat over Bijbel vertalingen, -publicaties en verspreidingen.
Hierover kwamen enkele punten ter sprake zoals hoe bepaalde uitgevers op veilig willen spelen en zich aan de traditie willen vasthouden om in de plaats van Gods Naam te drukken 'Heer' te laten lezen.
Dit is zo gebeurt bij de Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling in het Nederlands, maar ook in de Nieuwe Bijbevertaling in het Engels. Zowel het Nederlands Bijbel Genootschap als Zondervan hebben daar de kans gehad om de sinds enkele jaren scheef gelopen 'traditie' weer recht te zetten.
In vroegere artikelen op dit platform en dat van de Vrije Christenen hebben wij het al over dit euvel voor de Nederlandse versie gehad. Betreft de NIV kwam een schrijven van het Wachttoren Genootschap ook ter sprake, welk wij graag met jullie delen. U kan er de inhoud van vinden op: The NIV and the Name of God

The NIV and the Name of God
In one of my conversations I had on Bible translation, publishing and contribution
TJ had written: > > This continues corrupt practices such as removing God's name from

to which I wrote: > That is a strong accusation. This would be very bad.
On which TJ had a few comments to add:
When the New International Version (the most popular version in the USA) was released, one of Jehovah's Witnesses wrote the publishers asking why they left God's name out of the Bible. The letter was reprinted in the following Watchtower article.
"Why did the recently published 'New International Version' (NIV) of the Bible fail to use the name of God where it appears about 7,000 times in ancient Bible manuscripts? In response to a person who inquired about this, Edwin H. Palmer, Th.D., Executive Secretary for the NIV's committee wrote:
"'Here is why we did not: You are right that Jehovah is a distinctive name for God and ideally we should have used it. But we put 2 1/4 million dollars into this translation and a sure way of throwing that down the drain is to translate, for example, Psalm 23 as, "Yahweh is my shepherd." Immediately, we would have translated for nothing. Nobody would have used it. Oh, maybe you and a handful [of] others. But a Christian has to be also wise and practical. We are the victims of 350 years of the King James tradition. It is far better to get two million to read it—that is how many have bought it to date—and to follow the King James, than to have two thousand buy it and have the correct translation of Yahweh. . . . It was a hard decision, and many of our translators agree with you.'"

Studiebijel in perspectief
”Studiebijbel in perspectief” (uitg. Jongbloed, Heerenveen, 1872 blz.) bevat de bijbeltekst van de Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling (NBV) aangevuld met verklaringen van moeilijke verzen. Ieder bijbelboek is voorzien van een inleiding, met daarin aandacht voor de historische context en voor heilshistorische lijnen. De Bijbel wordt als een eenheid gezien, hoewel er de veelsoortigheid van verschillende genres voluit wordt erkend. De Studiebijbel heeft dwarsverwijzingen, een uitvoerige concordantie en een encyclopedie van belangrijke Bijbelse namen en begrippen. Bij de Studiebijbel hoort een code die toegang geeft tot een website van meer dan 1000 foto’s.
De Studiebijbel is gebaseerd op de Franse studiebijbel "Bible du Semeur", afkomstig uit de kring van behoudende theologische opleidingen in Frankrijk, zoals Aix-en-Provence en Vaux-sur-Seine. De Franse editie werd door een keur van medewerkers vertaald, waarbij de inleidingen op de bijbelboeken hier en daar licht gewijzigd en geactualiseerd zijn. Qua lay-out en orthodoxe ligging voldeed deze Franse uitgave het meeste, aldus Van Houwelingen. De redactieraad bestaat uit mensen van diverse kerkelijke achtergronden, variërend van orthodox-protestants tot meer evangelisch. Nieuw in de Nederlandse editie zijn thema-artikelen over diverse onderwerpen, zoals schepping, spiritualiteit, heiliging, Messiaanse verwachtingen in het Oude Testament en christologie. Ze zijn geschreven door Nederlandse auteurs.
