Studiedagen te Leuven

De rollen van de Dode Zee staan centraal in het studieluik dat  als aarlijks zomerinitiatief de sectie Bijbel van de secties Catechese en Bijbel van de Faculteit Godgeleerdheid (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) en de Vlaamse Bijbelstichting organiseert.

In 1947 werden in de nabijheid van de Dode Zee manuscripten van meer dan tweeduizend jaar oud ontdekt. Een halve eeuw heeft het geduurd alvorens die teksten toegankelijk werden gemaakt voor het grote publiek. Bijbelgeleerden zijn het erover eens dat deze teksten een uniek inzicht verschaffen in de religieuze achtergrond waartegen het Nieuwe Testament ontstaan is. Bovendien werpen ze een fascinerend nieuw licht op de tekstoverlevering van het Oude Testament.

Tijdens de studiedagen tonen experts en jonge onderzoekers uit België, Nederland en Israël het belang aan van deze rollen en fragmenten uit de woestijn van Juda. Voorts maken ze de balans op van zestig jaar onderzoek. Ten slotte verkennen ze nieuwe wegen voor de Bijbelwetenschap van de toekomst.

De leergangen beginnen op dinsdag 17 en woensdag 18 augustustelkens om 9 uur in het Maria Theresiacollege, Sint-Michielsstraat 6 in Leuven. Deelname kost 30 euro.

Eeuwenlange verkondiging van de hel als martelplaats

Eeuwen lang gingen predikers rond om mensen schrikbeelden voor te schotelen van plaatsen waar de mens na de dood zou toe gaan en gemarteld worden voor de begane zonden tijdens dit leven.

Door meeste christenen wordt er geloofd dat er een hemel die het verblijf van de gerechtvaardigde gestorvene is waar zij eeuwigdurende vreugde en geluk ervaren en daarnaast zou er dan de hel zijn, de eeuwige duurzame plaats van het kwaadaardige waar de mensen zouden gefolterd worden zelfs tot in de eeuwigheid. Er zou namelijk een nare nooit-beëindigende kwelling in zijn onblusbare vuren plaatsgrijpen.

Maar is die gedachte wel volgens de Heilige Schrift?

Wat denkt u hier over en wat denken anderen er over?

Deze maand is de vraag: Hemel en hel, wat leert de Bijbel er over?

Heaven and Hell: What does the Bible REALLY teach?


For centuries preachers went around bringing frightful ideas about places were people would be tortured for the sins they had done here on earth.  It has been commonly believed by most professing Christians that heaven is the abode of the righteous dead where they experience everlasting joy and happiness, and that hell is the eternal abiding place of the wicked who are subject to never-ending torment in its unquenchable fires.

Developing new energy

God,

Tekens op aarde en in de lucht

Juli is een van de heetste maanden in Moskou in 130 jaren van geregistreerde geschiedenis geweest. Velden en bossen zijn opgedroogd en veel van de tarweoogst van dit jaar is verwoest.

Vuren hebben over Rusland geraasd en hebben enorme verwoesting veroorzaakt. De ergste droogte en de hoogste ooit geregistreerde temperaturen hebben een kruitvat gecreëerd dat werd aangestoken.

Aan de andere kant in Pakistan zijn over 1500 mensen gestorven  en over 1.500.000 zijn deze week in de ergste overstroming sinds mensenheugenis getroffen. Record brekende regenval heeft veroorzaakt massieve vernietiging.

Wij zien zeker wonderen in de hemel boven (regen) en op de aarde eronder (vuur) zoals geprofeteerde. Het woord "wonder" betekent "voorteken". Een voorteken is een teken of waarschuwt dat iets gewichtig of rampspoedig, waarschijnlijk gaat of staat te gebeuren.

Iets gewichtig EN rampspoedig staat voor ons om te gebeuren. De terugkeer van Christus…

En het zal in de laatste dagen, zei God, ik zal mijn Geest op alle vlees uitstorten ….En ik zal wonderen tonen in de hemel boven en tekens in de aarde eronder; bloed en vuur en damp van rook: (Handelingen van de apostelen 2:17.19)

Signs on the earth and in the skies

July has been the hottest month in Moscow in 130 years of recorded history.  Fields and forests have dried up, and much of this year's wheat harvest has been ruined.

Fires have raged across Russia causing enormous devastation.  The worst drought and highest temperatures ever recorded have created a tinderbox which has ignited.

On the other hand over 1500 people have died in Pakistan and over 1,500,000 have been affected this week in the worst flooding in living memory.  Record breaking rainfall has caused massive destruction.

We are surely seeing wonders in the heavens above (rain) and on the earth beneath (fire) as prophesied.  The word “wonder” means “portent”.  A portent is a sign or warning that something momentous or calamitous, is likely to happen.

Something momentous AND calamitous is about to happen.  The return of Christ…

 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:….And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:(Acts 2:17,19)

A Katyusha-type rocket fired by militants from Gaza struck the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon on Friday, damaging buildings and causing panic after more than a year of relative calm.
The LORD said unto Joshua, ….. there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines,(Joshua 13:1-2)
Joshua did not “possess” the land of the Philistines. It remained a thorn in the side of Israel for almost their whole existence. Modern Israel has withdrawn from the same area.
In about 2 weeks time direct peace talks may well begin between Israel and the Palestinians.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
(1 Thessalonians 5:3-4)
Israel's president has accused the English of being anti-Semitic and claimed that MPs pander to Muslim voters.
Shimon Peres said England was "deeply pro-Arab ... and anti-Israeli", adding: "They always worked against us."
According to Andy Britain has definitely become more anti Semitic. As this country has turned its back on the Bible so Britain has become increasingly anti Israel.
There was a time when the Britain backed Israel (like ancient Tyre). To the extent they made a declaration to establish Jews in Palestine and create a homeland for them in what we now call Israel. However like ancient Tyre, Britain has gradually weakened its support for Israel. David Cameron’s remarks this week show this to be the case.
Isaiah 23:6 speaks of Tyre passing over to Tarshish (Britain). We also read of this latter day Tyre (London / Britain) “singing” like a harlot at the very end. Britain is now singing like a harlot. Britain no longer “sings” for Israel but against her.
