Love envieth not

Songs in the Night
Love envieth not. I Corinthians 13:4

HAVE I the love that "envieth not," the love that is generous, so that I can see others prosper and rejoice in their prosperity, even if, for a time, my own affairs be not so prosperous? This is true generosity, the very reverse of jealousy and envy, which spring from a perverted nature. The root of envy is selfishness; envy will not grow upon the root of love. Love rejoices with them that rejoice, in prosperity of every good word and work, and in the advancement in Christian grace and in the divine service of all who are actuated by the divine Spirit. Exceeding Great and Precious Promise

Exceeding Great and Precious Promise

"For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt. 6:32,33

Let us seek the Kingdom as the preeminent matter of our lives. . . . If seeking the Kingdom seems to hinder some of our earthy prospects, so much the better. The Master said it must cost us our all. R5048:c2,p5 If the Kingdom was made first, all their earthly needs would be supplied. R5917:c2,p4

Building Solomon’s Temple

Dutch version / Nederlandse versie: Het bouwen van Solomons tempel

An exhibition “Building Solomon’s Temple” will be held from January 17 – May 27, 2011, in The Library and Museum of Freemasonry, Freemasons’ Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ, UK. Hopefully the snow will have disappeared by then.

For more than 200 years, the concept of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem had been central to organised freemasonry and had influenced its symbolism, architecture and ceremonies. Biblical scholars and early freemasons had only been able to use the few biblical references to construct their images of the Temple on paper and later on ceramics, textiles and glass. Napoleon’s expedition to Egypt reawakened interest in the Middle East.

Het bouwen van Solomons tempel

Van January 17 – Mei 27, 2011 zal een tentoonstelling “Building Solomon’s Temple” plaatsgrijpen  in The Library and Museum of Freemasonry, Freemasons’ Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ, UK.

Zalig Kerstfeest.

What Jesus sang

As Christmas Eve approaches, monks and nuns in their monasteries will chant Midnight Mass and many of the world's one billion Christians will sing some sort of Christmas music, secular or sacred. And so, we ask: What did Jesus sing? The answer is not simple. But perhaps of even greater importance is the question of whether what Jesus sang influenced the future liturgical music of the Catholic Church, which came to be known as Gregorian chant.

Jesus knew how to recite, rather than perform, the scriptures -- a practice that developed in the more than 300 synagogues that existed in Jerusalem before the Romans destroyed the Temple. This oral tradition of synagogue cantillation has survived unbroken among the Jewish people for more than 2,000 years and still flourishes today. Over the centuries communities in Spain, Eastern Europe and as far away as Iraq, Persia, Yemen and Uzbekistan have developed their own unique styles of cantillation.

Anthropologist Geoffrey Clarfield, writing in a leading Canadian newspaper, explores the relation between the synagogue music of Jesus’ time and Gregorian chant.
The Sacred Bridge, a CD recording that features Psalm 114, “oscillates between Latin and Hebrew, Gregorian chant and synagogue cantillation,” writes Clarfield. “The melodies are identical and despite the alteration between Hebrew and Latin you would think you were listening to the same song. In fact, you probably are, for no doubt this is a distant echo of what Jesus sang.”

What did Jesus sing?

At the Passover Seder Jesus and his disciples most likely recounted, in story and song, the exodus of the Jewish people from their bondage in Egypt over a thousand years earlier. In verse 30 we are told that "when they had sung the hymn they went to the Mount of Olives."

Revival of Jesus’ language at Oxford

Christ's endangered language gets new lease of life in Oxford

Jim Caviezel plays Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, which is in Aramaic An Aramaic course offered by Oxford University is drawing scores of scholars from as far afield as Liverpool and London .
Some 56 scholars are now studying the Aramaic language there, outpacing the number of those currently studying classical Greek. It is the language that Christ spoke, but is regarded as "endangered" with ever fewer scattered groups of native speakers.
David Taylor has previously taught the language to groups of two or three people in his study, and was astounded by the turnout for his first public lesson. Though a few fell by the wayside, more than 40 stayed the course until the classes ended in time for Christmas.
John Ma, an Oxford classicist and one of the leaders of Project Arshama which organised the lessons, said: "You would probably have to go back 2,000 years to find a room so full with people speaking Aramaic – the time when Jesus would have been speaking the language."
Dialects of Aramaic – a 3,000-year-old language once spoken by millions across the Mediterranean and near east, from Syria to the borders of India – are still spoken, but Taylor believes the war may push it to the verge of extinction in Iraq.
His students were learning imperial Aramaic, from his own newly devised grammar, which is intended to be easier to learn as a beginner. They were not entirely convinced. Boris Chrubasik, an Oxford classics graduate, said: "Getting used to a semitic language is all but easy, and when the radicals start dropping one gets upset." However, he insisted staunchly: "Learning Aramaic is fun."
Most of the students were postgrad classicists like Chrubasik, but some theologians and biblical scholars came too.
Ma, a fellow and tutor at Corpus Christi, took the lessons himself and is beginning to dream in Aramaic. Very dull dreams, he admits. "Mostly verb paradigms (since there's some rote learning, as with other languages) and once saying to someone, 'Mindeam la avdeth anah' … I didn't do anything."
And he ruefully quotes a fellow student on mastering a particular vowel sound, "a guttural throat sound not unlike incipient vomiting".
However, after two lessons he could read in the original the words spoken by Christ on the cross: "My God, my God why did you forsake me." After eight, he realised to his surprise that he could understand the Aramaic dialogue in Mel Gibson's 2004 film The Passion of the Christ.
"It was very satisfying, it's not always like that when you learn a new language," he said.
The lessons were organised by Oxford University's classics faculty and faculty of oriental studies as part of Project Arshama, a collaboration between the universities of Oxford and Liverpool, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The project is focused on one of the treasures of the vast Bodleian library, the 13 Arshama letters, written on leather in the Persian empire in the 5th century BC – priceless to scholars because so many documents on parchment or clay have not survived. There will be a seminar and an exhibition on the letters next summer.
Ma has supplied some useful Aramaic phrases for the season (with a nervous eye on his tutor, because he's not quite sure he's got all his vowels right):
• "Shelam biznah qodemay, ap tamah qodemayk shelam", from a letter written 2,500 years ago, translates as "Peace here before me, and also peace over there before you", but colloquially means "I am well, and hope you're well too".
• "Anah rahem leki" (from a man to a woman) and "Anah rahmah lak" (from a woman to a man), which means "I love you".
• "Shelam we sherarat saggi hawseret leki" for "I have sent you peace and much strength".

In the gospel there is an invitation to all who believe what God has  promised, to share with Christ in his kingdom, glory, and joy, which invitation is given on certain conditions well defined (1 Thess. 2:12; ; Matt. 25:21) faith in the things covenanted to Abraham and David, and in those taught concerning Jesus, in the Old and New Testaments; immersion into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and thenceforth a life of without which no one will be approved and promoted to the honour and glory of the kingdom ().

Hope as long as you live

Let the past behind you but consider today the following...

Hope that you live so long as you want,
but more important:
that you just hope as long as you live!

"And Yahweh,
Jehovah your God,
shall make you plenteous in goods,
in the fruit of your body,
and in the fruit of your cattle,
and in the fruit of your ground,
in the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers to give you.

Jehovah uw God,
uw vaderen onder ede beloofd heeft,
zal Hij u rijke overvloed schenken in alles,

Apple of Gods eye

“For  thus saith Jehovah of hosts: After glory hath he sent me unto the  nations which plundered you; for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple  of his eye.”(Zechariah 2:8 ASV)

God has revealed himself to the world in ways that we can understand.  He has given us His Word in which He also shows His concern about the  Jews – God’s people and the ‘apple of his eye’ (Zechariah 2:8).

God chose Israel as a nation to show forth his glory:
“For  thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath  chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples  that are upon the face of the earth.” (Deuteronomy 7:6 ASV)

God said that the Jews are the evidence of his existence:
“Ye  are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen;  that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me  there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” (Isaiah 43:10  ASV)
Genesis chapter 12. God made promises to  Abraham, the first Jew – that  he would have descendants (the Jews), a  land (Israel), that because of  him not just they but the whole world  would be blessed. Jehovah  made further promises to Abraham's ancestors ,   Isaac and Jacob.

Much  later, in Galatians 3 verse 16, we learn  that these promises also refer  to Jesus Christ: “To Abraham and his  seed were the promises made,” and  that seed (descendant) is Jesus. The  covenant later  opened out to include people of all races who are  faithful (Galatians  3:28-29;  Psalm 103:17-18; Psalm 50:16-23).

There  are prophecies about the nation that are yet to be fulfilled. All  the  indications are that they will be fulfilled soon. (Read Zechariah   chapters 12 and 13.)

Citizens to take an oath of loyalty to Israel

The Israel Democracy Institute’s latest Democracy Index reports that 54 percent of Israelis favour requiring citizens to take an oath of loyalty to Israel as a “Jewish and democratic state” as a condition for being allowed to vote. This bad idea should be opposed on principled and pragmatic grounds alike.

Of the approximately 7.23 million Israelis in 2009, about 76% were counted as Jewish, though some of those are not considered Jewish under Orthodox Jewish law. Since 1989, nearly a million immigrants from the former Soviet Union have arrived in Israel, making this the largest wave of immigration since independence. In addition, an estimated 105,000 members of the Ethiopian Jewish community have immigrated to Israel, 14,000 of them during the dramatic May 1991 Operation Solomon airlift. 32.9% of Israelis were born outside of Israel.

Hanukkah Feast of light

In 167 BCE, Jason did away with Jewish law and rebuilt Jerusalem in a Greek model. This included banning genital mutilation and Jewish sacrifice, permitting Jews to marry gentiles and instituting an internationalist program exemplified by participation in the Olympic Games.

J.A. Myerson calls for celebrating the Hellenistic Jews and their struggle, rather than the violent extremists and their victory.  The greatest Jewish tradition is not one of following any commandments whatever, but rather of investigating, examining, discovering. The secular Jewish tradition holds that it is through those processes that one learns truth, not through the revelation of commandment.

Lees haar artikel:(My) Jewish Identity Crisis op the Busy Signal

... I have been told by Jews and Gentiles alike that I am not Jewish.  This struggle with Jewish identity was brought into sharp focus by the experience of one of my close friends (who is not Jewish), as she faced her own struggle with Judaism and Jewish identity as her wedding to her Jewish fiancé approached. ...

... One of the reasons my friend was hesitant to convert was because she did not want to be a member of a religious community that rejected her–and her marriage–as a non-Jewish person of mixed race.  In the Jewish community, the issue of interfaith marriages is very contentious.  Some Temples and denominations openly accept intermarriage, but the Jewish establishment vehemently rejects intermarriage, claiming it is the leading cause of the dying out of Jewish practice, religiosity, and even the Jewish “race”.  Many Rabbis will not perform marriages for interfaith couples.  Despite this, intermarriage rates among Jews are high, and so are the numbers of children born to those interfaith couples.   ...

To me, Jewishness–and other religious and cultural identities–are not something that can only be passed from mother to child.  Jewishness not just a religious, but a cultural identity.  And how does it make any sense for boards of Rabbis to decide who is and is not Jewish, simply based on the faith of ones’ mother?

... Jewish identity, religion, and culture are complex, and who is a Jew or not a Jew often depends on who you ask and by what set of standards and what denomination one uses to make that determination. ...

Christmas, Saturnalia and the birth of Jesus

The days are shortening already for some a time.  It always becomes quicker dark and there is now not many light during the day.

Over a few days a celebration would take place in many houselholds, by which trees are decorated and one not only in the tree extra lights are brought in, but also around the houses.  Extra light and atmossphere bringers can be welcome now.  But we must be conscious that we focus us rightly.

Christmas as generally celebrated today is one of many carry-overs from Roman Catholicism
that survived the Reformation. Historian Will Durant reminds us that Roman Catholicism grew out of the merger between paganism and Christianity that took place under Constantine in the early 300s. Commenting upon the resulting "Christianization" of the Roman Empire, which Reconstructionists such as Coalition on Revival (COR) director Jay Grimstead look back to fondly as a model of what they hope to achieve, Durant wrote:

Paganism survived...in the form of ancient rites and customs condoned...by an often indulgent Church....Statues of Isis and Horus were renamed Mary and Jesus...the Saturnalia [Festival of Saturn in celebration of the winter solstice] was replaced by Christmas celebration...[ I]ncense, lights, flowers, processions, vestments...which had pleased the people in older [pagan] cults were domesticated and cleansed in the Ritual of the Church....

In spite of its pagan/Roman Catholic origins and crass commercialization, we can perhaps rejoice that Christmas annually brings a reminder of the Savior's birth. Unfortunately, however, Christmas festivities generally perpetuate the confusion concerning who Jesus Christ really is, why He came, and what He accomplished.
This is not surprising, considering the misunderstandings even among His own disciples at the first advent--and the far greater confusion that the Bible warns will precede His second coming.

Christmas is only a few weeks away, and it's meant to be a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, but how many people celebrate Christmas in ignorance of who Jesus actually is?
I'm sure you know who Jesus is, but download it anyway and forward it to your friends who might not know. This is a great time of the year to tell people about God and his plan for the earth as many are often more willing to listen because of all the Christmas celebrations going on around them. Use every opportunity possible to make the saving name of Jesus known to those around you this Christmas!

Pope Benedict's promulgation of Verbum Domini, the document in which he bestows on the Church the rich fruit of the twelfth Synod of Bishops (2008), which reflected on the Word of God in the life and mission of the Church. >
